Tongue Weight, Curb Weight, Dry Weight, Payload… the list of towing metrics goes on and on and on. When we learned how much the trailer would weigh, we soon realized we needed a truck that could pull 12,000 lbs. What seemed to be an easy task; go to the dealership and ask “can this tow 12,000 lbs?!” was not that easy. After spending 3 weeks to understand the acronyms and which metric we should actually pay attention to, we narrowed it down to a Ram. But, wait… each year the Ram was made has a different tow capacity. Luckily, Ram has a website to check towing by VIN. But, wait there is more… hitch, weight distribution kit, tires, off road, 4x4, diesel vs. gas, some kind of cooling engine thing - all things that can further enhance or hinder towing ability. Let’s not even mention the simple skill of just driving a trailer (we’ll save that for another post.)
